چکیده

This work presents a theory to unify the two independent theoretical frameworks of Kohn-Sham (KS) density functional (DFT) and reduced matrix (RDMFT). The generalization KS orbitals hypercomplex number systems leads (HCKS) theory, which extends search space for in KS-DFT that is equivalent natural spin with fractional occupations RDMFT. Thereby, HCKS able capture multi-reference nature strong correlation by dynamically varying occupations. Moreover, potential overcome fundamental limitations verified on correlation, including atoms transition metals. As promising alternative realization DFT, opens up new possibilities development application DFT future.

Coarse-graining Kohn–Sham Density Functional Theory

We present a real-space formulation for coarse-graining Kohn–Sham Density Functional Theory that significantly speeds up the analysis of material defects without appreciable loss of accuracy. The approximation scheme consists of two steps. First, we develop a linear-scaling method that enables the direct evaluation of the electron density without the need to evaluate individual orbitals. We ach...

Self-averaging stochastic Kohn-Sham density-functional theory.

We formulate the Kohn-Sham density functional theory (KS-DFT) as a statistical theory in which the electron density is determined from an average of correlated stochastic densities in a trace formula. The key idea is that it is sufficient to converge the total energy per electron to within a predefined statistical error in order to obtain reliable estimates of the electronic band structure, the...

Kohn-Sham density-functional theory within a finite basis set

The Kohn-Sham self-consistent equations, urnig a finite orbital basis expansion, are formulated for exchangecodation functionals which depend on local densities and their gradients. It is shown that these can be solved iteratively without evaluation of density Hessians. A general expression is given for the energy gradient (with respect to nuclear motion) after self-consistency has been achieved.

Optimized local basis set for Kohn-Sham density functional theory

We develop a technique for generating a set of optimized local basis functions to solve models in the Kohn–Sham density functional theory for both insulating and metallic systems. The optimized local basis functions are obtained by solving a minimization problem in an admissible set determined by a large number of primitive basis functions. Using the optimized local basis set, the electron ener...
